Ah, Japan. What a great time this was! I was visiting Robin and her flatmate Alice, who both lived right outside Tokyo at the time. I should say housemate, actually - they had a house. While Tokyo is of course meant to be the ultimate in cool, I have to say that much of the better parts of the trip were outside Tokyo. Kyoto especially sticks out in my mind, though its temples do have to compete with things like the onsen in southern Kyushu where we paid to be buried in hot sand, sitting in a tower in Tokyo eating okonomiyaki, and plenty more.
